# Looking for a Lucent alternative?

Verdict: Lucent keeps the recording and points an AI at it. We never make the recording. If you're already deep in PostHog, Amplitude, Datadog, or Sentry and want an AI reading the tape you're already keeping, Lucent's a fine add-on. If you're picking what goes in first, the price gap runs about 25x per session in our favor, and that's before you get to what a standing replay archive costs you in a privacy review.

I asked ChatGPT to compare us against Lucent. It picked Lucent.

That stung for about ten minutes. Then I went and checked why.

Lucent is a real company, YC-backed, an AI that watches the session replay you're already recording and tells you what's broken in it. Not a strawman, not a nothing competitor invented to make this page easy. We build a competing product, so read what follows the way you'd read any vendor comparing itself to another vendor: I checked every number against Lucent's own pricing page before writing a word of this, and I'll tell you plainly where they're the better pick.

Here's the shape of it. Lucent keeps the recording and points an AI at it. Flusterduck never makes the recording. Same instinct, nobody has hours to sit and watch, two different fixes.

## Where Lucent wins

If the AI misses something, you still have the tape. This is their advantage and I'm not going to write around it. Lucent retains replay video, 30 to 90 days depending on plan, so a person can go watch what happened when the automated pass gets something wrong. We capture bounded evidence, not full video. Less to fall back on if a signal doesn't fire.

No card for the trial. Email in, issues out. Ours asks for a card on day one, because the trial runs live AI diagnosis against your actual traffic instead of a sandboxed demo, but the reason doesn't matter much once you're the one filling out the form. Theirs is less friction and I'll say so plainly.

Already living inside PostHog, Amplitude, Datadog, or Sentry? Lucent bolts on. You don't rip out years of dashboards to try it. That's not nothing.

## What changes when you switch

Nothing gets recorded in the first place. Not masked, not redacted after the fact. Not recorded. Lucent still leaves you holding an archive of what your users did on screen, something to secure and mask and explain to whoever runs your next privacy review, even with an AI doing the watching. Call it recording debt: it doesn't cost you today, it costs you the day someone asks what's sitting in that archive. Flusterduck captures behavioral signals only. No replay, no form values, no keystrokes, no DOM capture. PII gets stripped in the browser before it ever leaves the visitor's device. IPs get hashed at the edge. Nothing to leak because there's nothing sitting there to leak.

Issues come ranked by what they cost you, not just how loud they are. Lucent sorts by severity and how many people hit it. We estimate revenue impact per issue, so "300 sessions hit a dead click" and "300 sessions hit a dead click on the page where people pay you" don't land in the same bucket.

We check our own work. Ship a fix and Flusterduck compares the page's confusion score before and after, so every issue ends up verified, pending, or regressed. I couldn't find anything in Lucent's docs that closes that loop. Filing the bug is where their job appears to end.

And the price. At the door, we run a fifth of what Lucent charges for five times the sessions. Work that math either direction and it lands around 25x cheaper per session on our side. The gap doesn't shrink much higher up either.

## Pricing, plainly

As of July 2026: Lucent's Starter is $499/mo for up to 10,000 sessions (3 active signals, 3 Autofix PRs a month, 30 days of retention), Pro is $799/mo for up to 30,000 sessions, and annual billing knocks off about 25%. Enterprise is a call you have to take. The free trial needs no card and shows up to 10 issues before you commit to anything.

We're $99/mo for 50,000 sessions on one site, $249/mo for 250,000 sessions across five, $499/mo for a million sessions across ten. Sessions pool across every site in your org, and AI diagnosis rides along instead of getting metered separately. Our $499 tier gets you a million sessions. Theirs gets you ten thousand.

## The comparison in one table

| | Lucent | Flusterduck |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Core model | AI reviews session replay | Detection without replay |
| Session replay | Yes, own SDK or existing provider | No, by design |
| If the AI misses something | Video replay retained | Bounded evidence, no full replay |
| Issue ranking | Severity + affected users | Estimated revenue impact |
| Deploy verification | Not offered | Built in, automatic |
| Free trial | No card, 10 issues shown | 3-day trial, card required |
| Entry price | $499/mo, 10,000 sessions | $99/mo, 50,000 sessions |
| Privacy surface | Replay archive, masking is on you | Signals only, PII stripped in-browser |

## Who should pick which

Pick Lucent if you're already deep in PostHog, Datadog, or Sentry and want an AI reading the tape you're already keeping, or if skipping the card matters more than price today. Pick Flusterduck if you're deciding what goes in first, if that price gap would change your budget, or if you'd rather nothing got recorded than trust a masking rule to hold. Go run the [free scan](/scan) against your own site. Or start the [3-day trial](/pricing) and let it loose on your actual traffic.
